Were You Still Talking?

Studio16x9

Were You Still Talking is about people, places, arts, food, culture, putting positive energy in the world, how all of us have something to say or maybe we don’t, drugs, exercise (or exorcise, if you spell it wrong!), laziness, motivation, breathing! The connection we all share on the planet and quite possibly getting away from the pedestrian level of consciousness.

The first episodes are also about how to start a podcast and if anyone can do it, even someone who knows nothing about it.

Episode #61
What is Atmospheric Science?
Is there something missing in all the data on global climate change?
How do you go from a Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering to a Ph.D. in Atmospheric Science?
Should I buy a Tesla??
My guest this episode is Dr. James Stalker an American serial high-tech entrepreneur since 2002. Dr. Stalker is CEO of The Enterprise Universe.
Dr. Stalker has a unique professional background in Science (Ph.D. & Master’s degrees in Atmospheric Science) and Engineering (Master’s and Bachelor’s degrees in Mechanical Engineering). He also has decades-long experience in research (e.g., inventor of the Stalker method for the global weather/climate simulation) and technology development (e.g., inventor of load-creating renewable energy) and business development (owner of multiple high-tech businesses, including Regional Earth System Predictability Research & The Enterprise Universe).
Dr. Stalker spends his time solving the unknown and most complex problems in the STEM fields, but also has essentially developed key innovations for inspiring and educating and training entrepreneurs and corporations via his two seminars/workshops titled ‘9 Entrepreneurship Fundamentals’ and ‘Leadaging for Organizational Excellence,’ respectively.
Dr. Stalker is a patriotic and proud American that studies and defends the Constitution and always tries to interpret it for fairness and inclusiveness for the changing times in which we find ourselves.
The United States of America has played and still must play a significant leadership role in the world to make (and keep) the world a better and safer place for every human being on Earth.
He also believes that the American values of governance are worth promoting to the rest of the world mainly by setting an example. Dr. Stalker strongly believes that the most effective way of imparting one’s knowledge to others is by showing to the rest of the world how that knowledge has helped you become a better individual.

Episode #60
Stephen Hawley Martin is my guest, and we talk about evidence for life after death, the evidence for reincarnation, evidence that consciousness is not confined to our brains, and a whole lot more.
What do you think?
As the talk show host of a popular weekly internet podcast, “The Truth About Life,” it became clear to bestselling author Stephen Hawley Martin as he interviewed dozens of near-death survivors, psychics, researchers into the paranormal, as well as quantum physicists and medical doctors, that humankind is on the cusp of a transition to a new understanding of the true nature of reality. To share what he has learned and to help speed the transition, which he believes will result in a rebirth of optimism and the world becoming a better place to live and work, he has written more than two dozen books, many of which have achieved bestseller status on Amazon. Martin is a former principal of the world renowned ad firm that created the GEICO Gecko and “Virginia Is For Lovers,” The Martin Agency, and is currently the editor and publisher of The Oaklea Press. He is the only three-time winner of the Writer’s Digest Book Award, having won first prize twice for fiction and once for nonfiction, and he has also won First Prize for Visionary Fiction from Independent Publisher and First Prize for Nonfiction from USA Book News.

Episode #58
Scott Wagnon PA-C
Is the latest fade diet going to work long term? Wondering what diet is for you? Want to find out if you can exercise the weight off? Is plant based the only proven way to have a healthy diet? Do I care?
Those are the questions I ask Scott on this episode.
Scott has been a Physician Assistant since 2005. Currently working in Internal Medicine. In 2012 he had his own health problems despite heavy exercise, and what he felt was a healthy lifestyle. This prompted him to study the science of Nutrition. Once he saw the evidence, he began transitioning to a whole food plant based diet. He got his health back, and then began sharing it with patients. By the end of 2020 he has taught using a food as medicine approach to over 1,500 patients, both in one on one appointments in the clinic, as well as in free classes to his community. He continues to teach and share this vital information, with any and all who are interested in taking control of their own health and wellness.

What an honor to have Andrew Ecker on the Podcast. After a proper introduction (by Andrew) I listen to him talk about native American history, traditions, honoring the Earth Mother, growing up in America and learning to heal from a childhood filled with challenges.

Andrew found healing in his life through the use of ancient technologies including drumming and a ceremonial introduction process of his Native American ancestry he outlines in his book ‘The Sacred 7’.

Episode #56
This time on the show I have the great pleasure of talking to Trav Bell, The Bucket list Guy. This guy is full of positive energy and we talk about how he became The Bucket list Guy, living life fully, overcoming fears, and even how Covid helped him finish his book!
In his own words:
Someone first called me The Bucket List Guy about eight years ago. It was because of all the crazy and interesting things I’d done in my life up until then.
See, from the age of eighteen – well before Bucket Lists were a ‘thing’ – I’ve written a ‘To Do Before I Die List’. Today, as a forty (something) year-old guy, thanks to The Bucket List movie and the popularity of the concept, they certainly are now. It’s a heavily hashtagged and tweeted global phenomenon.
My Bucket List is my reason why I attack life. It’s always been my compass, my motivation. It continues to give me purpose and bring meaning into my life. Ignorantly, I thought everyone had a written list like me… apparently not.

Episode #55
Welcome and thanks for listening. On this episode I talk to Michelle E. Dickinson about mental health, growing up with a mother who was bipolar, understanding the challenges of mental health issues in the workplace and the need to normalize the conversation around mental health.
More from Michelle:
1 in 3 Americans are dealing with depression or anxiety due to COVID. The emotional impact of the pandemic is hitting many of us. The United Nations released a policy brief entitled COVID-19 and the Need for Action on Mental Health citing the deep toll the crisis has taken due to social isolation, losing a loved one, and the economic turmoil from lost income. Now, more than ever, we need to normalize the mental health conversation.
Return to work anxiety is very real for so many people also. Setting up your home for harmony is also a challenge for many. Invite me to share tips and strategies to help ease anxiety and how to create a home environment and structure that will best support your family.
I’ve experienced the “trifecta” of mental health.
1. I grew up loving and caring for my bipolar mother.
2. I helped build the largest mental health employee resource group at a fortune 500 company.3. I experienced depression due to a life event reminding me that nobody is immune to mental illness at any given point in their life.

My book Breaking Into My Life was written to help myself—along with the rest of us—better understand the world of mental illness. My story of perseverance and triumph helps challenge and transform the “suffer in silence” dynamic, and makes mental illness more understood, treated and accepted.
I am out to do my part to eliminate the stigma by normalizing the mental health conversation in workplaces and within the first responder community. I partner with innovative leaders to bring my programs and mental health strategies to help them cultivate cultures of compassion for those living with or caring for those with invisible disabilities. My Resilience webinar has made an impact with empowering hundreds of employees during COVID-19 quarantine.

Episode #54

With me on the Podcast today I have Giles Howe, Producer, Writer, Actor, Singer and creator of the musical Soviet Zion. The concept album for Soviet Zion is out now and can be found at sovietzion.com.

We talk about making a concept album during Covid, working on a project for 11 years, how it all came about and who’s that barking in the background?

More form Giles:

Originally from Europe where I worked extensively as a producer of new musical theatre, my talent and close relationship to music has taken me all over the world.

I have worked with many industry leaders and maintain personal relationships with influencers on both sides of the Atlantic having worked globally for international companies including Disney, Easy Theatres, Veritas Entertainment, Royal Caribbean and Aria Entertainment.

As well as a strong track record of creative innovation having produced many UK and World Premieres of new musicals as a co-founder of The A STAGE KINDLY New Musical Theatre Initiative with West End producer Katy Lipson, I am an award-winning vocalist recognized with two prestigious RTN Awards in 2018 after making my New York cabaret debut as a special guest at the Triad Theatre in Manhattan. This diverse experience on both sides of creating theatre affords me a unique approach.

I currently coach private students in vocal performance and stagecraft, myself having performed worldwide featuring in a number of different successful vocal acts including The 12 Tenors, Stars of Opera and Viva Voce and in such legendary venues as The Royal Albert Hall in London, China’s Great Hall of the People in Wu Xi, and the Bukanmara Hall in Tokyo  performing with icons including Brian May from Queen, Idina Menzel from Frozen, and multiple platinum-selling recording artist Josh Groban on whose Greatest Hits album I can also be heard. Recently, I recorded the vocal hook for a forthcoming trap release!!

I have written two contemporary operas: “Turkish Delight”: the macabre tale of a scorned woman’s revenge, and “SOVIET ZION”: an ambitious historical drama about the mysterious Jewish state in the Far-East of Russia. I make a small cameo as Benjamin on the Original Concept Album that I produced, likewise the accompanying release of Selections in Yiddish on which I also duet – both releases available now on iTunes, Apple Music, Amazon, and other leading digital platforms.

Episode 52 On this episode of Were You Still Talking? I have George Siegal, with over 35 years of experience in television and film production. We talk about his new film The Last House Standing from Move the World Films (movetheworldfilms.org) and what everyone needs to know about preparing for disasters, buying and building better homes, and what it takes to make a documentary film. We also talk about insurance, FEMA, getting help after major disasters and what you need to do and know before a disaster strikes. George is a former weatherman and TV reporter who covered countless stories about people who lost everything in disasters. Justin Alcala is back for a second time. We talk history, Dracula (the book and movies), Jaws and why it’s so good, older movies vs new, dark side of Christmas and Christmas history and then we remember to talk about his upcoming book A Dead End Job.
We also talk about news of the day a bit and eventually get on to Star Wars and The Mandalorian and important stuff like that.
Justin is a novelist, nerdologist and Speculative Literature Foundation Award Finalist. He’s the author of three novels, including Consumed, (BLK Dog Publishing) The Devil in the Wide City (Solstice Publishing) and Dim Fairy Tales (AllThingsThatMatterPress). His short stories have been featured in dozens of magazines and anthologies, including It Snows Here (Power Loss Anthology), The Offering (Rogue Planet Press Magazine) and The Lantern Quietly Screams (Castabout Literature). When he’s not burning out his retinas in front of a computer, Justin is a tabletop gamer, blogger, folklore enthusiast and time traveler. He is an avid quester of anything righteous, from fighting dragons to acquiring magical breakfast eggs from the impregnable grocery fortress.

Most of Justin’s tales and characters take place in The Plenty Dreadful universe, a deranged supernatural version of the modern world. When writing, Justin immerses himself in subject matter, from stuffy research to overseas travel. Much to the chagrin of his family, he often locks himself away in his office-dungeon, playing themed music over, and over, and over again. Justin currently resides with his dark queen, Mallory, their malevolent daughter, Lily, changeling son, Ronan, hellcat, Misery and hound of Ragnarök, Fenrir. Where his mind might be though is anyone’s guess.

Episode #48
On today’s episode I talk to the infamous Frank King, The Mental Health Comedian. Why is he infamous? Just google Frank King Covid 19 and see all the misleading or just plain bad press about Frank. This is not why I had him on the show.
We talk about his run in with the press, escaping the fires in Oregon, a lifetime of comedy, faxing jokes to Jay Leno, 5 TEDX talks and speaking openly about suicide. He even goes so far as giving his number to anyone who just needs to talk.
More from his website:
Frank King was a quarter-finalist on Star Search…he lost to a puppet. He’s also appeared on A&E’s An Evening at the Improv, Showtime’s Comedy Club Network, and CNN’s Business Unusual. In addition to telling jokes, he’s been busy selling jokes. He’s written nationally for Jay Leno, Joan Rivers, and Dennis Miller.
They’ve called him the best thing to happen to after-dinner since dessert.
He’s opened up for Jerry Seinfeld, Adam Sandler, Jeff Foxworthy, and Ron White. Most recently was himself opened up, by a crack team of cardiac surgeons, at the Oregon Heart and Vascular Institute…who performed an aortic valve replacement, his second, and tossed in a double bypass, his first…so he truly is, Funny at Heart.
As a Certified Laugh Coach, Stress Reduction Specialist, and Professional Comedian since 1985 who has totaled one marriage, two heart valves, and three cars, and turned a million dollar real estate portfolio, amassed by age 52, into, thanks to the recession and a Chapter 7 Bankruptcy filing, a $125,000 real estate portfolio by age 53, I offer time-tested tools for using humor to turn pain into punchlines, losses into laughs, and messes and stresses into successes.

As an Associate Teaching Professor for MU’s Trulaske College of Business, I teach courses focused on information systems and project management, emphasizing critical thinking about emerging technologies such as Artificial Intelligence, Blockchain, and the Internet of Things (IoT). I believe that the COVID-19 crisis has moved the future forward; transformations that might have taken decades will now take years or months, as the world’s commerce and information flows are re-invented. This acceleration in the pace of change makes understanding new technologies a critical skill and empowers us to shape the future.

I am recognized as a leader in applying emerging technologies in education programs and the classroom. I have received the Distance Learning Leadership Award from the Missouri Distance Learning Association, the Raymond and Mary Ann O’Brien Excellence in Teaching Award, the Bruce and Pam Walker Outstanding Faculty Service Award, and several other teaching awards from my students and peers.

I am also an experienced public speaker and writer. I have authored or co-authored three books, including Virtual Classrooms, an early book about using videoconferencing for distance learning (published in the mid-90s before Zoom was cool!). This academic year, I am continuing to collaborate with colleagues in Ukraine and South Africa to deliver courses and workshops focusing on emerging technologies to audiences worldwide.

Before devoting myself full-time to teaching, I owned Kaleidoscope Consulting, an information technology business. As a certified Project Management Professional (PMP), I have worked on more than 400 projects worldwide. In 2012 Governor Nixon appointed me to the Board of Regents for the State Technical College of Missouri, where I was elected Vice-President and served for six years.

#43 With Calvin Correli
What a great conversation with Calvin Corelli as we try to solve the world’s problems from very different points of view. Later we get on to what’s really real, finding your purpose, living meaningful lives and how he started his business Simplero. I could write more here about right wing propaganda machines mentioned in the podcast, but not really necessary as nobody reads these notes anyway.
From his website:
I’m a serial entrepreneur, spiritual teacher, author, and the founder and CEO of a growing SaaS company called Simplero. Ten years ago I would have never thought that my life could be so vibrant and fulfilling.

For most of my life I was trapped in bad relationships, poor health, and a constant feeling of fear and uncertainty. Until I decided to make a change. I’ve spent the last decade learning, growing, and re-imagining myself to get aligned with my life’s purpose. And my purpose is to help people realize who they truly are so they can live impactful and meaningful lives.

#41 With Betty J. Kovacs Ph.D Was religion hijacked? My very special guest on the podcast today is Betty Kovacs, Ph.D. Last week I talked politics, this week it’s religion and 2,500 years of repression by both Church and State. More about Betty: Betty J. Kovacs’ extensive study of the shaman-mystic spiritual tradition of prehistory reveals how this early knowledge of the blueprint for our evolution was distorted and covered up by Western religions. She shares her knowledge and passion through her books, speaking, teaching and media interviews in the United States and Europe. She speaks to national and global audiences through webinars, keynote presentations and media interviews. More than 2,500 years of repression by both Church and State have thwarted our evolution, forced our science into a limited, materialistic understanding of life, and now threatens the survival of all life on our planet. We need to know this history. Twentieth-century scholars have unearthed this lost history in the nick of time. In spite of its repression, this is the fifth time this ancient knowledge has emerged in Western history. Only now are we able to see its origins, its continuity, and the depth of what it can mean for us today. The ultimate fruit of the tree of life is the knowledge that we are all Universal Mind, immortal, divine, and creators. Without this knowledge of who we really are, we have fallen into depression, violence, fanaticism, fundamentalism, addiction to power, death and drugs that promise to transform our experience of a world without heart and soul. We are destroying ourselves and the planet. We have forgotten that the heart connects us to a larger reality that nurtures the birth of a just and feeling world. Merchants of Light: The Consciousness That Is Changing the World returns to us our shaman-mystic-scientist heritage that carries the blueprint for heart consciousness. This blueprint is revealed in the heart wisdom of the mystic and in the new science of quantum physics. The return of this Consciousness is changing the world. Author Betty J. Kovacs, Ph.D., a recognized expert, shares her knowledge and passion through her books, speaking, teaching and media interviews in the United States and Europe. She speaks to national and global audiences through webinars, keynote presentations and media interviews. She received her Ph.D. from the University of California, Irvine, in Comparative Literature and Theory of Symbolic/ Mythic Language. She taught Literature, Writing, and Symbolic/Mythic Language for twenty-five years. She served many years as Chair and Program Chair on the Board of Directors of the Jung Society of Claremont in California and sits on the Academic Advisory Board of Forever Family Foundation. Within a three-year period, she experienced the deaths of her mother, her son, and her husband in separate automobile accidents. While she had studied shamanism before her son’s accident, she and her husband actually experienced their son’s consciousness after his death for an extended period of time. These experiences completely changed their lives. Her first book, The Miracle of Death: There Is Nothing But Life, is about these altered states of consciousness. After her retirement, she began an intensified period of research into our ancestors’ experience of a vaster consciousness, Cosmic/Christ Consciousness, which she relates in her new book, Merchants of Light: The Consciousness That Is Changing the World, winner of the Nautilus Silver Book Award and The Scientific & Medical Network 2019 Book Prize. Here [in Merchants of Light] are the spiritual secrets that the priests of the patriarchy and their drive for power have tried to repress, but which we urgently need at this present moment of evolutionary crisis.

He has set a world record by appearing on the TEDx stage 13 times. We talked about the band The Slants, jumping on drumsets, being an Asian American, racism, and how the battle with the trademark office all started. The trademark battle has been featured on NBC News, NPR, The Washington Post and Wikipedia (so you know it’s for real, right?). From his website: Simon Tam is an author, musician, activist, and troublemaker. Tam is best known as the founder and bassist of The Slants, the world’s first and only all-Asian American dance rock band. Episode 39
What a pleasure talking to Justin Alcala. We talk about writing, how he comes up with ideas, how fun research is, writing every day, making movies from books, favorite authors and a lot more.

On recent podcasts I have talked to a woman on the spectrum who is open and willing to talk about autism and help others learn about it, a therapist that works with veterans to help them with PTSD, a guy who bicycled across the US twice, a coach who has traveled all fifty states and more than 50 counties, and more all booked through this guy! Andrew Allemann is a podcasting expert and founder of Podcastguests.com. We talk about starting the service to book guests on a podcast, what inspired him, how to be a good guest on a podcast, a free guide to help you as a podcast guest, or anytime you want to present well on a video/conference call and much more.
The service is used by over 20,000 people to both find guests for podcasts and for experts to get booked on podcasts.

On this week’s episode I have April Yanko on the Zoom talking acting, writing and staying out of the sun even while living in LA. We talk about Pittsburgh, self-promotion for actors, why somebody would move to Los Angeles, training, a little about “Method” and what famous people are from Pittsburgh like Michael Keaton, Quinton Tarantino, Gene Kelly and Christina Aguilera.
From her website Aprilyanko.com:
Actor | Writer | Overall Weirdo
I am an actor and writer living in Los Angeles. I moved here recently from Pittsburgh, where the bulk of my experience has taken place, so I have many stories on what indie film production is like (both from an actor’s pov and from that of a producer, writer, and director).
I made my TV debut on the Reelz Channel playing serial killer Karla Homolka, where I was flown to Dallas to shoot for four days.
I’ve been a brand ambassador for different companies in Pittsburgh and LA, working many live events. Also, a birthday party princess, working mostly as Rapunzel and Anna. Commercial shoots, model shoots, voice over gigs, I’ve done a LOT of different jobs within the facet of acting. And, of course, I’ve gathered many stories along the way.
I am a lover of cats and eater of pasta. I share internet things by the name Post March. “Post” means after, so my name is “after March,” which should answer the question, “Is this a Post Malone reference?” (rather than focus on my videos, I want viewers to think about, understand, and then appreciate my riddle username).
Here are some super fun facts about me, the one with the face:
– I went to the National Theater Institute at the Eugene O’Neill Theater Center where I learned how to create in all aspects of theater AND how to do it while concussed.
– My first guest star was on a show called, “Murder Made Me Famous,” where I played serial killer and evil Canadian Karla Homolka, part of the Ken and Barbie Killers. I got this role through self-pitching and relationship-nurturing. Because I’m a bad ass. It’s also one of the best filming experiences I’ve ever had.

– If you know Pennsylvania, I am from Johnstown, land of floods. If you don’t, I am from Pittsburgh, land of potholes.
– Since graduating Point Park, I’ve been in over 70 student films and over 30 other projects (I want to say the opposite of student film is “adult films” but that doesn’t seem right in this context).
– I narrate tutorials for VEXcode Robotics so maybe I’ve explained to your kid how to update the firmware of their V5 Brain.
– My first self-written/directed/produced short film, “this is a garden,” is currently on the festival circuit and recently won “Best Cast” at the Alternative Film Fest in Vancouver (and I’m one of two actors in it so that’s pretty good).
– My second short film, “Butt Stuff,” is currently in post. It’s about a sentient sex butt that is jealous of its owner’s relationship with another human.
– I make random goofy videos that I share online under various forms of “Post March,” which you can find by following my social links in my header.
– My first feature with a starring role, “Force to Fear,” forced me to learn a lot of fight choreography and how to properly condition my hair after the 80s style tried to fry it off of my head.
– I just finished a pitching TV course where I learned how to better share my awesome adult cartoon, “Craig and Sophie.”
– During college I created a Feminist Collective, served two years in Residence Life, and worked at the library as a professional shusher.
– Sure I have a BA in Acting; but more importantly, I have one in PR and Advertising. Just marvel at this website my degree taught me how to make.
– My favorite voice actor is Jodi Benson and I think if I met her I would accidentally pee myself (much like her most famous character, Ariel, did when she turned into a human).
Some other random tidbits:
– I love all pastas equally.
– I have a black cat named Artie who is my son.
– I am incredibly fond of Futurama and the Powerpuff Girls.
– All of my Neopets are alive and well.

The Big Sigh

The Big Sigh by Becca Lory, CAS, BCCS

On the Zoom today is Andrew Monroe. We talk about his first book, living in Amarillo Texas, motivation, traveling the USA, and I ask him what a WISP is.
Andrew is an Indie writer with a semi successful book, A Leaf and Pebble. His book hasn’t topped the charts yet, but it was only published at the very end of 2019. He gained expert experience in the startup world, having helped run an internet service provider in the WISP industry and then cashed out after growing it to $4 million/year in revenue. Apart from writing the next book, Andrew spends a fair amount of time as a marketing expert for his own company, Axe & Bow.
As an adventure and fitness enthusiast, he has spent time free climbing dozens of buildings, peaks, and everything in between, earning multiple Spartan Race Trifectas, and placing in the top 20 at a Spartan Sprint in Dallas. He’s even experimented a little with biohacking.
Andrew has a background education in Global Affairs with a minor in Japanese and admittedly spends too much time playing tennis. He was raised in the U.S. in the Texas Panhandle and has visited dozens of other countries.

So honored and exited to have Kevin on Zoom for this episode. We talk about Kevin’s unique approach to relieving stress and how he works with lions and tigers and bears to help combat veterans with PTSD. Kevin has worked as a manual therapist for over 25 years and created a technique to relieve stress in a matter of minutes. His program The CATAlyst was designed to help combat veterans reintegrate back home and he offers it free to them. “The CATalyst is a human-animal interaction that helps people recognize and counterbalance stress in seconds. The kicker, the people learn to calm themselves while face to face with tigers (through fences, of course). The program works in conjunction with a private animal rescue sanctuary and is free to combat veterans.” He also has written a book about it and offers a free pdf on a simple stress relieve technique on his website: http://catalystrefuge.com/ His book is available here: https://www.amazon.com/dp/1733970606/… Kevin’s Ted Talk: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H_yus… Music for all episodes by Jon Griffin.
