Day six on the island was even more perfect than the days before. We were snorkeling by 10:00 and got locked out of our room again. This happened when I went back to the room for something and had to call security for the second time in about 2 days. The good news though, when I went to the front desk to get new key-cards and gripe about being locked out again, we got the check out extended as long as we wanted!!
The first turtles we encountered, while on our last snorkel of the trip. Don’t have any pictures of those. Once my blog that nobody knows about gets ten thousand hits, maybe I can afford an underwater camera!
The temperature that last day was perfect, around 79 with a steady breeze. Once we were done snorkeling we got a bite somewhere, then we went to mail stuff and run some errands and saw these goats.
Goats are all over the Big Island. We saw very few last year and tons this year.
You will also see a lot of referral cats on the island. This was one of the ones of the five or six that Heidi took pictures of at a public park on the road that leads to the Fairmont Orchid.
This is when the turtles sightings started to add up. There were at least seven on this beach. We almost missed them.
Then it was back to the hotel to snap some more pictures.
After check out we headed to this beach near the marina in Kona. We saw many more turtles, in and out of the water and watched as the herons and egrets came in to roost for the night.
As we walked back to the car it started to pour down rain. We got soaked, but didn’t care at all, as it only takes minutes to dry in the warm night air of Hawaii.
Still a little time before we have to leave, so it’s into Kona for a dinner at one of our favorite restaurants the Lotus Cafe near Costco.
